Screen-and-recoat versus full sand in Woodstock, Canton, and Roswell. When a light abrade and new coat is enough, and when the floor needs a full refinish.

In Woodstock, Canton, and Roswell, the first question on a tired hardwood floor is not color. It is whether the finish still has life or the wood is already showing. Screen-and-recoat and full sand are different jobs. Mixing them up wastes money.

What a screen-and-recoat is
We abrade the existing finish with a screen, clean it, and put a fresh coat on top. The old finish stays. Color stays. Deep scratches stay. You get sheen and protection back in less time than a full refinish, with less dust and fewer days of light traffic.
What a full sand is
We sand through the finish into the wood, flatten the surface, repair what needs it, stain if you want a color change, and build new coats. Pet gouges, gray wood, and uneven wear across a hallway in Roswell or a kitchen in Canton usually need this path. A coat on top of worn-through finish will peel.
How we decide on site
If your fingernail catches in the scratch, the wood is involved. If the floor is dull but still sealed and the color is fine, screen-and-recoat is often enough. If traffic lanes are bare, or the last coat failed in spots, we sand. We will not sell a recoat that will not hold.
Pets, kids, and traffic lanes
Homes in Woodstock and Canton with dogs and school traffic wear the same paths every day. A recoat buys years when the film is intact. It does not fix board edges that are already rounded or a hallway ground to bare oak. We say that on the walkthrough.
