It does. Solid hardwood needs to be nailed into a wood subfloor, which a slab doesn't give you. On a slab, we're typically looking at engineered hardwood, either glued down or floated over an underlayment. It still looks and feels like real wood floor-to-floor, it's just built to handle a concrete subfloor the way solid boards can't.

If the wear layer is still intact and it's just surface scuffing, a screen and recoat is usually enough — we scuff up the existing finish and add a fresh topcoat without sanding into the wood. If the scuffs have worn through to bare wood or there's discoloration, that's a sign we need to sand and refinish properly. We'll check it on site before recommending either.

It is, and it's one of the more common upgrades we do in Towne Lake. The main thing to plan for is moisture near the sink and dishwasher, so we often recommend engineered hardwood in a kitchen rather than solid. Beyond that, it's a normal tear-out and install — the laminate comes up, subfloor gets checked, and real wood goes down in its place.

A few days, minimum, right in the rooms where it's going down — not in a garage or on a truck. Cherokee County's humidity swings enough through the year that wood needs time to adjust to your home's actual conditions before we nail or glue it down. Skip that step and you risk gaps or buckling later, even if the install itself looks perfect on day one.
