New material acclimates in your home for several days before we install it. Skipping that step is the single biggest cause of gaps and cupping down the road.
What Installation Actually Involves
Step 1
Subfloor inspection & prep
Before any wood goes down we check the subfloor for moisture, squeaks, and level. Low spots get floated, squeaks get screwed down, and damaged sections get replaced — problems are fixed before they're covered up, not after.
Step 2
Acclimation
New hardwood sits inside your home, in the rooms where it will be installed, for several days before we nail, glue, or float it. Wood moves with humidity, and this is the step that keeps it from gapping or cupping later.
Step 3
Installation
Solid hardwood is nailed or stapled to a wood subfloor. Engineered hardwood can be nailed, glued, or floated depending on the subfloor, including over concrete slabs, which solid hardwood generally can't go over directly.
Step 4
Stairs, trim & transitions
Stair treads, risers, and transition strips are cut and matched to the new floor so the finished space reads as one continuous floor, not a patchwork of materials at every doorway.
Solid vs. Engineered Hardwood
Both are real hardwood on top. The difference is what's underneath, and where each one can go.
| Feature | Solid Hardwood | Engineered Hardwood |
|---|---|---|
| What it's made of | One solid piece of hardwood, top to bottom | A hardwood veneer bonded to a plywood or composite core |
| Where it can go | On-grade, over a wood subfloor | Any level, including over concrete slabs and below grade |
| Refinishing | Can typically be sanded and refinished many times over its life | Can usually be refinished once or twice, depending on veneer thickness |
| Installation method | Nailed or stapled to a wood subfloor | Nailed, glued, or floated, depending on the subfloor |
Not sure which fits your project? We'll look at your subfloor, the level of your home, and what you want the floor to look and feel like, then recommend one during your on-site measure — not before we've actually seen the space.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a typical hardwood installation take?
It depends on square footage, whether stairs are involved, and how much subfloor prep is needed. A single room usually wraps up in a day or two once the new wood has acclimated; a whole-home installation more commonly runs one to two weeks. We'll give you a specific timeline in your written estimate.
Should I choose solid or engineered hardwood?
Solid hardwood can be sanded and refinished many times over its life and suits most on-grade, over-wood-subfloor spaces. Engineered hardwood is more dimensionally stable, so it's usually the better choice over concrete slabs, below grade, or with radiant heat. We'll walk through both during your on-site measure.
Do you handle subfloor repairs before installation?
Yes. We inspect the subfloor for moisture, squeaks, and level before any new material goes down, and repair or replace damaged sections as part of the installation rather than installing over a problem.
Can new hardwood be matched to the floors I already have?
In most cases, yes. We identify the species and plank width of your existing floor and special-order matching or complementary material, then match the stain and finish so the transition reads as one continuous floor.
Do you offer financing for installation projects?
Yes. We offer financing up to $55,000, with interest-free options starting from $30 a month, subject to approval. Ask about it when you request your estimate.
What areas do you install hardwood in?
We install hardwood flooring in Woodstock, Kennesaw, Marietta, Sandy Springs, Canton, Roswell, Alpharetta, Acworth, and the surrounding North Metro Atlanta area.
