LVP Installation in Acworth: The Short Answer
The Hardwood Guys installs luxury vinyl plank in Acworth homes, and we test moisture and check the subfloor before a single plank goes down. We are family-run in Woodstock, GA, owned by David Brannan, and we serve Cobb County, from the older downtown homes of Historic Acworth to houses on and near Lake Allatoona.
LVP is a layered vinyl floor with a printed wood look. In Acworth it comes up most for basements, kitchens, baths, laundry rooms and lake-area homes. It is not right for every room, and we will say so. For a free on-site estimate, call or text 470-826-3581. Our LVP installation page has the full process.
Why Acworth Homes Choose LVP
Lake Allatoona shapes our flooring advice in Acworth more than almost any other place we work. Houses near the water see sharper humidity swings than inland Cobb County homes, and wood reacts to them. LVP does not swell the way wood does.
Where LVP fits
- Lakefront and near-lake homes where humidity is the worry.
- Basements over a slab that has passed a moisture test.
- Kitchens, where spills stay on the surface.
- Bathrooms and laundry rooms.
Where it is not the right call
- Hardwood in good shape. It can be refinished, and covering it gives that up.
- Homes where longevity matters most. LVP cannot be sanded and refinished, so a worn floor is replaced.
- A soft, wet or badly out-of-level subfloor, or a moisture problem nobody has solved.
- Rooms with hours of direct sun or in-floor heat, where manufacturers set temperature limits.
In Historic Acworth, original hardwood that has lost its finish can often be refinished instead. See our hardwood floor refinishing page.
LVP vs. Engineered Hardwood Near the Lake
The short version. Our LVP installation page has the full comparison, with laminate.
| LVP | Hardwood (solid or engineered) | |
|---|---|---|
| Refinishing | Cannot be sanded or refinished. A worn floor is replaced. | Can be sanded and refinished, if enough wood or wear layer is left. |
| Moisture | Handles moisture better than wood, though water can still get under seams. | Least tolerant of standing water. Engineered handles humidity swings better than solid in many lake-area homes. |
| Damaged section | Individual planks can often be replaced. | Boards can be repaired or replaced, then refinished to blend. |
| Best fit | Basements, baths, kitchens, rentals. | Living areas, bedrooms, stairs, and homes where resale matters. |
Plenty of near-lake homes do fine with engineered hardwood once the humidity is planned for, while a house right on the water may suit LVP better. We decide that in person.
Our Acworth LVP Install Process
Hollow spots, gaps and lifting seams usually trace back to what is under the floor. Here is the short version; the LVP installation page has the detail.
- Moisture test
Over a concrete slab we test the slab for moisture. Over a wood subfloor we check the wood and what is below it, such as a crawlspace. If readings are high, we tell you before any flooring goes down.
- Flatness and leveling
LVP floats and follows what is under it, so we check the subfloor against the manufacturer’s flatness tolerance and correct what is out.
- Underlayment and vapor barrier
Many planks come with an attached pad, and a second underlayment is usually not allowed. Unpadded planks get the manufacturer’s underlayment, and some require a vapor barrier over concrete.
- Layout and expansion gaps
A floating floor needs a gap at the edges, pipes and door frames, covered by trim. Cabinets and islands never go on top of it, because they pin it in place.
- Transitions
Where LVP meets hardwood, tile, carpet, a sliding door or a hearth, we pick the T-molding, reducer, threshold or stair nose that fits the height difference.
- Stairs
Stairs do not float. Each tread and riser is covered separately, usually glued, with a stair nose on the front edge, and only on lines the manufacturer approves for stairs.
Bought Your Floor at Floor & Decor?
Plenty of Acworth homeowners pick their planks at Floor & Decor first, and we install them. The brands we install include COREtec, NuCore and NuCore Performance; the NuCore lines are sold at Floor & Decor, and COREtec is a separate brand. Floor & Decor sells AquaGuard as waterproof laminate (per Floor & Decor), so that one is on our laminate flooring page.
Wear layer vs. overall thickness
The wear layer is the clear coating over the printed pattern, measured in mils, and it resists scratches. Overall thickness is measured in millimeters and can include an attached pad. For example, Floor & Decor lists NuCore Gunstock Oak as 6.5 mm thick with a 22 mil wear layer, and says the 6.5 mm includes the attached cork pad (per Floor & Decor). With dogs, kids or a busy kitchen, compare wear layers first. Our post on wear layer vs. overall thickness of LVP goes deeper.
We also sell Pyzo luxury vinyl plank and install it. See our LVP products page.
SPC or WPC?
Most LVP is rigid core, with a stiff center layer that is usually SPC or WPC. SPC (stone plastic composite) has a dense, mineral-filled core that is stiff, usually thinner and stable when temperatures swing. WPC (wood plastic composite) has a softer, foamed core that is usually thicker and quieter underfoot, and it dents more easily under heavy loads. Neither is automatically better. If a product page does not say which core a line uses, ask us before you buy.
Acworth Basements Over Concrete
Concrete below grade can carry moisture. LVP does not swell the way wood does, and a floating floor does not need nails into the slab, so it usually works over a slab that has passed a moisture test. If the test comes back high, we fix the source first: a leak, drainage or a slab that needs a moisture barrier. Some manufacturers also require a vapor barrier film over concrete, and we follow their instructions because the manufacturer’s warranty often depends on them.

What Drives the Cost
We do not post a price for LVP installation, because it depends on the floor in front of us. What moves a quote most:
- Subfloor flatness and leveling
- Moisture testing and barriers on slabs
- What has to come out first
- Stairs and transitions
Our LVP installation cost guide covers each one. Text us photos of the room to 470-826-3581.
Water Damage on LVP
LVP handles wet spots better than wood, but water can still get in through seams, under a threshold or up from a slab and sit between the plank and the subfloor. Fix the source and dry the subfloor first, because new planks over a wet subfloor only trap the problem.
See our flooring repairs and water-damaged hardwood floor repair pages. We document and repair. Your homeowner’s policy decides coverage.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you install LVP in Acworth?
Yes. The Hardwood Guys installs luxury vinyl plank in Acworth, including homes on and near Lake Allatoona, and we test moisture and check the subfloor first. Call or text 470-826-3581 for a free on-site estimate.
Is LVP better than hardwood on Lake Allatoona?
For some lakefront homes, yes. LVP handles humidity and moisture swings better than either solid or engineered hardwood. Plenty of near-lake homes still do fine with engineered hardwood once the humidity is accounted for. LVP cannot be sanded and refinished, so a worn floor is replaced. We give you a straight answer after seeing the space.
Can LVP go in an Acworth basement over concrete?
Usually, yes, after the slab passes a moisture test. LVP does not swell the way wood does, and a floating floor does not need nails into the slab. If the test comes back high, the moisture gets fixed at the source first.
Can you install LVP I bought at Floor & Decor?
Yes. We install NuCore and NuCore Performance floors, along with COREtec and other LVP brands. Tell us the product name so we can check the manufacturer's instructions, and keep a few leftover planks from the same lot for future repairs. AquaGuard is laminate, not vinyl (per Floor & Decor), so see our laminate flooring page for that one.
Can LVP go over my existing floor?
Sometimes. Sound vinyl or tile can work if the surface is flat, clean, dry and firmly attached, and carpet and pad always come out. Covering hardwood gives up the option to refinish it. We look at the floor in person before recommending it.
Can LVP go on stairs?
Often, but not every line is approved for stairs, so we check the manufacturer's instructions first. Each tread and riser is done separately, with the planks glued down and a stair nose on the front edge.
How long does an LVP installation take?
It depends on square footage, removal of old flooring, subfloor prep, stairs and transitions. We schedule the job after we see the space, and the schedule is an estimate, not a guarantee.
How much does LVP installation cost in Acworth?
We do not post a price, because it depends on how flat the subfloor is, whether a slab needs moisture testing, and what has to come out first. We quote after seeing the floor or photos of it, and you get an itemized written quote. Text photos to 470-826-3581. Our LVP installation cost guide explains each factor.
Is LVP installation covered by a warranty?
Yes. Installs and full refinishes carry a 1-year warranty from completion. A plank maker's own warranty is separate. See our warranty page for the terms.
